Overview of Kids Workshops |
|
These programs are designed to give students the
chance to participate in individual and small-team design projects
while fostering an understanding of the design process and related
principles. Students will use LEGO bricks and accompanying icon-based
software as they design, build, and program their robotic creations.
Although the program is educational, we want the children to enjoy
themselves and have fun. Instructors are a collection of CEEO staff
with engineering, education, and child development backgrounds, and
Tufts engineering students.
This is just a sample of the programs that we offer at the CEEO. Be sure to check out the list of Upcoming Workshops to see what programs are currently enrolling.
Academic Year Workshops
Saturday Workshops
The CEEO hosts 3 hour workshops on 2-4 Saturdays each semester. The
programs include robotics workshops for students in grades 1-8,
workshops for students & parents, and workshops for educators. We
provide a variety of themed sessions each semester. Check the list of Upcoming Workshops to see what programs are currently enrolling.
After-School Programs
Our after-school programs are organized to give students the
opportunity to learn about the engineering design process through a
series of fun activities. The activities progress from stability
building exercises using LEGO bricks to challenges using the robotic
LEGO pieces. Each program ends with an open-ended design challenge. Check the list of Upcoming Workshops to see what after-school programs are currently enrolling. In addition, the
CEEO can be hired to support a limited number of after-school programs
in local schools. If you are interested in setting up an after school workshop for your school, please contact us at ceeo@tufts.edu.
Home-School Programs
These
programs are designed to teach home-school students about the
engineering design process and related principles. Over 6 sessions,
students are given challenges to build their understanding of the
design process and improve their skills with the robotic LEGO pieces
and accompanying icon-based software. Check the list of Upcoming Workshops to see what home-school programs are currently accepting enrollment.
Summer Programs
Week-Long Workshops
In the summer, the CEEO offers a number of week long workshops. This summer CEEO plans to offer the following workshops:
Co-Ed Robotics
CEEO plans to offer two one-week sessions for kids going into grades
3-7. These full-day sessions will run from 9 to 3 on Monday through Friday and cost
$500.
Early Elementary Robotics
CEEO plans to offer two sessions of Early Elementary Robotics for
children going into first and second grade. Each workshop will run for 3
half-days and cost $150.
Girls Only Robotics
CEEO plans to offer a week long session of Girls Only Robotics. This has
been half day in the past, but we may make it a full day. It will cost
$250 if it's a half day and $500 if full day.
High School Robotics
This summer, CEEO is considering doing a week-long session in Robotics
for high school students. If you would be interested in this, please
email lynne.ramsey@tufts.edu for further information.
The summer workshop schedule should be announced around February
20th, 2011. To be notified when the the schedule becomes available, send
