SAM Animation
Wednesday, February 22, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Museum of Science
Explore SAM Animation, a unique stop-motion software developed by
educators for educators at Tufts University that provides flexible and
creative ways to engage students in science, math, and engineering
explorations. By capturing a series of still images frame by frame,
stop-motion technology allows learners to represent their thinking in
the form of a movie, like a digital flipbook.
Create an animation you can share with your students, and leave
with ideas about how this software can support your students' learning.
Our staff will also provide an overview of the services and programs
available in the Educator Resource Center in the Lyman Library,
emphasizing support for teachers as learners.
Funding for SAM Animation provided by the National Science
Foundation. It is compatible with both Mac and PC computers. A demo
version of the software is available. Co-presenters are from iCreate, a
Tufts spin-off company that offers teachers professional development and
support.

Overview of Educator Workshops
Professional Development for educators
is a priority of the CEEO. We offer week-long workshops during the
summer as well as day long workshops during the year. Workshops are
structured to allow participants to engage in similar activities to
their students. Most of the time is spent on hand-on activities and
understanding how to present engineering to students - there is very
little traditional lecture. Curriculum Workshops
The
CEEO is involved in several grant-funded curriculum development
projects. Each curriculum developed at the CEEO goes through a series
of tests and refinements in real classrooms. The CEEO occasionally
offers workshops for teachers focused on a specific curriculum once it
has been classroom-tested.
Single Session Workshops
Throughout
the academic year, the CEEO offers single session Saturday and evening
professional development workshops. These sessions cover a variety of
topics to introduce educators to the LEGO toolkit, other tools
developed by the CEEO, or refresh skills developed at the summer
institute. Examples of workshops include Introduction to the NXT,
ROBOLAB Refresher, and NXT-G Refresher.
On-Site Professional Development
The CEEO is also available for on-site professional development. For more information please contact Elissa Milto at elissa.milto@tufts.edu
