The students and staff at the CEEO are continuously exploring new ways of enhancing the existing classroom environment through the development of education technologies in both the software & hardware realms.
iRobot Create Toolkit
The Create is an affordable, reprogrammable, two-wheeled robot, sold by iRobot. It is based on the core of the popular Roomba vacuum and can be controlled by sending commands defined by the built-in Open Interface.
Configuring and using serial communication can be a complicated and messy task. These communication issues on top of trying to learn the Open Interface's enigmatic opcodes can make programming the Create quite the challenge for the user. This is where the CEEO's iRobot Toolkit comes in.
Combined with the graphical programming environment of LabVIEW, the iRobot Toolkit provides a complete set of clear, simple to use blocks that can be used to create programs for the Create. Communications are handled automatically and intuitive interfaces and formats are provided for all commands.
Some details and documentation for the iRobot Create Toolkit are still being polished, but the current version is available for download.
To install, run the VI inside the zip folder or simply drop the addon folder into your LabVIEW Addons folder.
